Australiana Pioneer Village: a kid-friendly historic village
Looking for a fun day out with the family and wanting to take a break from everything? Visit and explore Pioneer Village and go back to a time before technology in this beautiful kid-friendly historic village.
This cute little village is run by wonderful and friendly volunteers. They offer a wide range of thing to do and learn; whilst allowing them to disconnect from the city life for an affordable entry fee of $10 for adults, $5 for children, seniors and carers, children under 3 get a free entry.
At the Pioneer Village you can experience the atmosphere and activities of life over 100 years ago with over 20 different attractions, you can find a detailed map of these attractions and buildings on their website.
things to do
They hold whip demonstrations at 1.30pm, animal feedings and public school opening for kids to sit in at 2.30pm. Kids can run around a stage with a piano, animal paddocks and a little veggie patch to walk around too.
Picnic areas and tables to come and enjoy the warm sun and cozy views (don’t forget to bring sun protection, hats and water bottles). A picnic blanket is encouraged so you can pick a reasonably shaded spot. Additional access to a cute cafe with reasonable prices.
Train and tractor rides are also offered at additional cost (all under $5 per person) which is totally worth it for the kids to experience, these run from 10am until 3pm.
Additional attractions
- Butter churning: see the process of shaking up the cream or milk to make butter before machines were invented!
- Blacksmith: you can watch a real Blacksmith shining!
- Water pump: you can see learn how people used to get their water.
- Convict ID Card: get your historical convict identification card (you don’t get a freedom certificate though)
- Farm animals: the kids (and animal lovers) will love giving them pats.
- Wool spinning: live demonstration of fleece wool being turned into yarn.
- Clothes washing: witness washing clothes via a washing board!
- Old vehicles: antique farm utilities are on display throughout the village.
- Family street theatre: the friendly group of volunteers conduct an entertaining street theatre.
- Colonial dress ups: at an additional fee you can hire traditional colonial clothing and have some role playing!
- Penny farthings are available only some days for children and adults for FREE.
- Animal feedings
All these available experiences do also depend on volunteer availability. However, even without all of these attractions happening at once; this is an extremely exciting experience that you don’t want to miss out on.

The Pioneer Village opens typically on Sundays, Public Holidays (except ANZAC Day) from 10am until 4pm, however no entry after 3pm. Additionally, Tuesday and Wednesday are open excluding January school holidays.
