Get ready for some fun in the sun! The City of Parramatta Council has revealed Lake Parramatta’s Beachy Makeover including:

  • A brand new beach area—perfect for building sandcastles!
  • Plenty of shaded seating so parents can relax while the kids play.
  • Accessibility upgrades like a sloped entrance, steps, and handrails to make sure everyone can enjoy the water.
  • Plus, they’re even thinking about adding a floating pontoon for even more water fun (pending final approval)!

These upgrades will make Lake Parramatta the ultimate summer hangout, while still keeping its natural bushland vibe that families love.

Lake Parramatta Beach Upgrades

A Natural Oasis in the Heart of Parramatta: Exciting New Upgrades Coming to Lake Parramatta!

Looking for the perfect family-friendly day out? Lake Parramatta, one of Western Sydney’s most loved swimming spots, is about to get even better! Not only is it a stunning 73-hectare wildlife haven, but the swimming area is getting a big upgrade as part of the ‘Our Living River’ initiative, which aims to make the Parramatta River swimmable by 2025. That means more safe, clean, and beautiful spots for you and your little ones to splash around in!

According to Lord Mayor Cr Donna Davis, around 50,000 people visit Lake Parramatta every year, and with these new features, it’s sure to be a hit with families of all ages. “We want everyone to be able to enjoy this beautiful spot—from toddlers to grandparents,” Cr Davis said.

And guess what? The project is made possible thanks to a $905,000 grant from the NSW Government’s ‘Places to Swim’ program. Construction starts in April 2023, and it’s all set to be ready for summer 2024—just in time for some epic family swim days!

When you’re done cooling off, there’s still plenty of adventure waiting for you and the kids. Grab your walking shoes and explore the bushwalking trails that wind through the reserve. With options for all ages and fitness levels, it’s the perfect way to keep the whole family active:

  • Heritage Path: A super easy 300-metre walk to the Dam Wall Lookout that’s pram- and wheelchair-friendly with some help.
  • Arrunga Bardo Walk: A 900-metre adventure up to the Arrunga Bardo Lookout—aka “Calm Waters.”
  • Reservoir Track: If your family loves a challenge, this 600-metre track includes rocky steps and a creek crossing.
  • Lake Circuit: For the super energetic families, take on the full 4.2-kilometre loop around the lake—2 hours of walking fun with plenty of chances to spot kookaburras, echidnas, and maybe even a wallaby!

And don’t forget to pack a picnic! There are loads of scenic spots along the way where you can stop, relax, and refuel before your next adventure.
