Nurragingy Reserve – Doonside

Situated on acres of parklands in Western Sydney, The Nurragingy Reserve features a number of gardens to explore, interactive playgrounds and recreation spaces to enjoy.

Located in Doonside, this 63-hectare park attracts more the one million visitors a year. Nurragingy Reserve is home to the Chang Lai Yuan Chinese Gardens and the Aboriginal Heritage Garden.

Named after Nurragingy, an Indigenous Australian leader, the Aboriginal Heritage Garden features a yarning circle, Indigenous artworks and native plantings. The Chang Lai Yuan Chinese Gardens is a traditional Chinese style garden with a stunning gateway, Seven Arch stone bridge, pavilion, Light Mountain and waterfall gazebo.

Wawai Ngurra inclusive adventure playspace

The kids will love this park as well. Take a ride on the miniature railway before exploring the multiple playgrounds located within the reserve, including the newest playground, the Wawai Ngurra, inclusive adventure playspace. This playground is the largest inclusive playspace within the Blacktown area with a customised elevated walkway, a Changing Places facility, all access swings, slides, musical items, trampoline, a sand table, quiet places, play sculptures and more.

On a hot day, the kids can cool off and splash around at the Nurragingy water play area near the Wren picnic shelter.  The water play area features jets, fountains, cannons and more. For active kids and families don’t forget to bring your walking shoes, the Nurragingy Reserve also has a bushwalking tracks, cycleways for bikes, scooters, skateboards and roller-blades.

Nurragingy Reserve is a great place for the family picnic or bbq with a range of  sheltered picnic options and wood-fired barbecues located throughout the park. The beautiful gardens also make it an ideal spot for weddings. There’s also a café nearby serving all day breakfast, burgers, hot chips, coffees, milkshakes and more.

GETTING THERE

Entrance to the Nurragingy Reserve is off Knox Road, Doonside with plenty of car spaces. Doonside Railway Station is a short walk down Cross Street and across Knox Road.
